One down, 56 to go. It's been tried before, but we guess that independent-minded people just don't learn. In a vote of 17 to 1, the floor staff of Landmark's Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge, MA have voted to unionize. You can read the original press release yourself, but we hope that this is just the beginning of the entire Landmark chain organizing. We also hope that the result will be taken for what it is: a vote of no confidence in the imported management of the Kendall. Mr. Cuban's policy of contempt for his employees, expressed via the hiring of former AMC management, has got to stop. It's bad for his employees, it's bad for his patrons, and it's bad for the Landmark community. Landmark doesn't need yes-men. It needs independent thinkers with a passion for independent film. If you're a Landmark employee, find out as much as you can about the benefits of unionizing. Only you can protect yourself from the whims of Mr. Cuban. If you're a Landmark patron, support any attempts Landmark employees make to organize. Trust us, they're more like you than anyone in middle or upper management: they love the films, and they love the community. They are you, and they're trying to speak for you. So speak up for them when you can. email us | ||
